Jemena’s Electricity Network in Melbourne’s north-west spans more than 6,160 kilometres – that’s a lot of ground to cover!
No one knows this better than Jemena Lands Management Officer Karen Osborne, whose work has a direct impact on helping to ensure reliable electricity supply for customers connected to the network.
“In order to ensure the ongoing safe and reliable operation of our electricity network, it’s important that landholders have clarity around the easements and leases for our assets on their land. This ensures we can access our electricity infrastructure when needed to maintain electricity supply across the network,” Karen explained.
Karen said Jemena is continually innovating to enhance its lands management processes, with technology playing an increasingly important role.
“As a team, we listen to our customers and implement processes to better meet their needs.
“One such innovation is our new digital land management system. The system captures all of our land records and is our register of tenure and rights across the network. It helps us to ensure our data is current and means we can respond to customer queries quickly and accurately,” Karen said.
Over her decade-long career with Jemena, Karen has held various roles in Facilities and Property management, but it is in the Lands Management team that she has been able to make a positive impact directly to customer outcomes.
“A typical day in my role can involve anything from liaising with external developers and lawyers, preparing easement and lease agreements and ensuring they are finalised and recorded on the land title.
“I take pride in responding to queries in a timely manner and I love receiving feedback from our customers. Every day is different and brings its own challenges - I really do love my job,” she said.
