Jemena is working to repair a section of its Eastern Gas Pipeline, following an incident that damaged the pipeline yesterday (27 October, 2023).
At this stage, Jemena does not anticipate an impact on gas supply to our residential gas customers in New South Wales.
An exact date for the completion of repairs is currently being determined, however it is anticipated repair works will be completed over the next 48 hours. During the repair period there may be an impact on gas supply for some larger commercial and industrial businesses in the region and our pipeline customers.
Given the current situation, Wyllie Road, Kembla Grange is closed, preventing access to facilities including the Wollongong Lawn Cemetery and the Macedonian Orthodox Monastery. Some additional roads nearby may also be closed.
The incident occurred as a new section of pipeline was being connected to the Eastern Gas Pipeline, and work is under way to understand the cause.
Community safety is our priority, so we will continue to work with local authorities to keep people and facilities nearby safe as repairs continue. We apologise for the inconvenience to the local community, and thank them for their patience as we work to resolve the issue.
Jemena has instituted safety procedures, including working with emergency services, to ensure there is no threat to the public, however we do advise staying away from the area until repairs are completed.
