Safely working near Jemena’s electricity infrastructure in Melbourne’s north west has just been made easier, with Jemena network information now available on the Look Up and Live app.
The app was developed originally by Energy Queensland and has now expanded to also include network information from NSW, Victoria and South Australia.
Network Investment & Delivery Manager David Speairs said that the safety of people working around its electricity assets was paramount for Jemena.
“Each year, serious injuries and fatalities occur in Victoria as a result of equipment and mechanical equipment contacting powerlines. We aim to increase the safety of those working near our overhead powerlines and reduce the potential for damage to our infrastructure and possible power outages as a result.
“We’ve been strong supporters of Energy Safe Victoria’s ‘Look Up and Live’ safety campaign for many years, so we were pleased to have the opportunity to provide the network data for our overhead assets for inclusion on the Look Up and Live app. We know that it will lead to increased awareness and safety outcomes for our communities,” he said.
David said that No Go Zone rules describe minimum distances that must be adhered to for people, equipment and mechanical equipment working near our overhead and underground electricity assets.
“The app helps people easily access the information they need to safely work around overhead electricity infrastructure via their phone or web browser.
“It can be difficult for people to understand distribution business boundaries. By using the Look Up and Live app, people can select a location and see who owns the particular assets. The app then has details for how to contact that distribution business for a site assessment if work is proposed within the No Go Zone,” he explained.
