Continued Commitment to Addressing Modern Slavery Risk

Aug 22, 2022

Today we have released our second Modern Slavery Statement, which details the actions we took to address potential instances of modern slavery across our supply chains in 2021.

As a major energy infrastructure company, our supply chains are globally connected and, as a result, we are exposed to risks from workforce practices across the globe.

In 2018, the Global Slavery Index reported more than 40.3 million people around the world were living in conditions of modern slavery, including at least 15,000 people in Australia. Modern slavery includes practices such as forced labour, illegal forms of child labour, human trafficking, deceptive recruiting, and exploitation of minimum wage requirements.

We are committed to improving our practices and processes to identify and respond to these risks, as part of helping drive improvements in global workforce practices. We are pleased to report our response continued to mature in 2021. Some of our actions included:

  • developing and implementing an agreed Group Modern Slavery Action Plan
  • working with suppliers to mitigate risks identified in our 2020 modern slavery risk assessments
  • regularly monitoring Australian and international information and reports about modern slavery
  • reviewing and updating our procurement policies, processes and documentation to reflect our approach to mitigating instances of modern slavery
  • communicating and engaging with our staff, energy sector peers and suppliers about modern slavery risks and our updated processes to address them
  • continuing to work closely with peers across the energy sector to identify shared risks through the Energy Procurement Supply Association (EPSA).
