Update on Emu Plains Gas Outage

Mar 31, 2022

Key Points

  • Approximately 1,200 customers are without gas supply in the Emu Plains and Leonay area of New South Wales following an incident impacting the gas network late on Thursday, 31 March 2022.
  • A small number of industrial and commercial customers (approximately 70) have been returned to supply.
  • We have mobilised additional field-crew to complete restoration efforts. We anticipate having all customers returned to supply by Sunday evening (3 April 2022).

Following an incident on the Jemena Gas Network in the Emu Plains region late on Thursday, 31 March 2022, Jemena confirms gas supply is currently unavailable to approximately 1,200 customers in the Emu Plains and Leonay region.

We apologise to all of our customers who have been impacted by this incident, and thank you for your patience at this challenging time.

To ensure we restore gas supply to our customers as quickly, and safely, as possible we have mobilised additional field resources to the Emu Plains area to support our restoration effort. We have established a restoration plan which involves:

  • Ensuring the safety of the gas network, while purging the network of remaining gas.
  • Undertaking repair-work and reintroducing gas to the network.
  • Attending individual properties to “relight” each property’s gas appliances.

Due to inclement weather conditions, and the scale of this outage, we anticipate progressively restoring customer’s gas supply over the next 24-48 hours. We expect to have gas restored for all of our customers by Sunday evening (3 April).

Throughout this time, our crew will continue to door knock individual houses to relight gas appliances. If we are unable to meet with you, we will leave behind a card with further instructions.

At this stage the cause of the incident is under investigation.

For gas emergencies customers should contact 131 909.
