Jemena Appoints New Renewable Gas General Manager

Dec 20, 2022

Leading energy infrastructure company Jemena recently appointed a new General Manager to lead its efforts to help develop Australia’s emerging renewable gas sector, Linda Cardillo.

Ms Cardillo brings to Jemena extensive experience with global roles at BHP, Rio Tinto and Anglo American, all companies grappling with the energy transition across a broad range of natural resources sectors. Most recently, Ms Cardillo has worked as Global Head of Metals and Mining for global energy and resources research and consultancy business Wood McKenzie.

Executive General Manager, Jemena Networks, Shaun Reardon, said: “Linda brings us her considerable understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by the energy transition, as well as her acumen in assessing markets and executing strategy.

“Linda will principally be focused on developing, delivering and leveraging our renewable gas projects: including the Western Sydney Green Hydrogen Hub and the Malabar Biomethane Project, while also working with customers and other stakeholders to support the development of the burgeoning renewable gas sector.”

Ms Cardillo said she was delighted to be joining Jemena at a critical stage in its renewable gas journey as it enters 2023 with its second renewable gas demonstration project coming online at Malabar in Sydney. This is following the Western Sydney Green Hydrogen Hub facility, which started generating renewable hydrogen in 2021.

“In 2023, our Malabar Biomethane demonstration project, developed in partnership with Sydney Water and co-funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, will be up and running and blending biomethane into parts of the New South Wales gas network,” Ms Cardillo said.

“We’re very excited that the gas produced at this facility will be the first to be accredited by GreenPower, meaning customers will be able to buy certified renewable gas. “Biomethane and renewable hydrogen have enormous potential to help Australia reach net-zero and I’m very excited to have joined Jemena at this critical moment as we plan for the future of our networks.”
