When used correctly, natural gas is a safe, reliable and efficient source of energy for your home.

Before we connect gas to your home or property, all pipelines in your area are tested and monitored to Australian safety standards.

Gas Safety at Home

Recognise

Gas smells like rotten eggs or cabbage and can signal a potential leak.

Leave

If you suspect a leak, remove or turn off ignition sources and leave the area immediately. Don't smoke or use your phone, and be sure to put out any naked flames.

Report

Report the potential leak online, or call us on 131909 any time of day, 7 days a week.

Safety Matters

Safety is our top priority, for our customers, people and communities. But safety is something we can all play a part in, so here are some things to keep in mind when using natural gas in your home.

Dial Before You Dig

If you have planned building, landscaping or excavation activity around your home or property, use the national service Before You Dig Australia to know the location of underground utility and energy network infrastructure, including gas pipes.

Call at least two working days prior to excavation and use caution, or use the Before You Dig Australia website. Service Operators are available between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM (AEST), Monday to Friday.

Before You Dig Australia is funded by utility organisations throughout Australia.
