When we review your application for a new gas connection, we assess if gas is available to your property. In some instances, we may need to extend the gas network to get you connected. If so, we will assess the feasibility of doing this. This assessment determines whether a customer contribution for the connection is required.
When assessing connection charges for a service, the following principles are applied in accordance with the National Gas Rules and Jemena's Access Arrangement:
The Jemena Gas Network must demonstrate to the Australian Energy Regulator that all capital and operating expenditures are economically and technically sound. Therefore, decisions about extending the network must be based on economic viability.
The pricing for your connection reflects the significant work required that is required, which includes but is not limited to several factors:
Terrain: The physical characteristics of the land.
Distance from the gas supply: How far your property is from the existing gas supply.
Pipe diameter required: The size of the pipes necessary to meet your gas needs.
Gas main design and construction: Planning and building the extension to the gas main.
Impact on existing infrastructure: Effects on current driveways, footpaths, and roads.
Environmental impact: Considerations for the local environment.
Restoration costs: On the day of the connection, Jemena will complete a temporary restoration to Council land only. The permanent restorations will be completed by the Local Council at a later date.
Traffic disruption: Including necessary traffic and pedestrian control measures.
Should your property meet the conditions of a basic connection as per the Model Standing Offer, your connection will be at no cost. More information can be found here
