Frequently asked questions

Q: I’ve just had my solar installed, what do I need to do to get it working?

A: You will need to provide the Embedded Generation Application ID (EGid), EWR and CES to your Retailer who will notify Jemena that your solar installation is ready to be configured. You can obtain the EGid from your Installer / Electrical Contractor.

Q: I didn’t receive an Embedded Generation application ID (EGid) from the Installer. What should I do?

A: Jemena can check if we have a record of the EGid and will provide it to you if available. If no EGid is available, we advise that it is a requirement that your Installer completes an Embedded Generation application online, via the Jemena ‘Connect and manage my electricity’ portal. Alternately you can register and complete the application in the Jemena Electricity Portal yourself. A checklist of required information is available on the Jemena website.

Q: My Installer isn’t returning my calls. What do I do?

A: Customers can register and complete the Embedded Generation application on the Jemena ‘Connect and manage my electricity’ portal themselves.

Q: How do I complete the Embedded Generation application on the Jemena ‘Connect and manage my electricity’ portal?

A: The following steps are required to complete an Embedded Generation application:

  • Access the Embedded Generation application on the ‘Connect and manage my electricity’ portal
  • If it is the first time you’ve used the portal, you will need to register.
  • As you work through the application, each field has a unique help function which explains the information required in that field.
  • User Guide is also available on the Jemena website.

Q: I’ve got the Embedded Generation application ID (EGid), what do I need to do next?

A: You now need to pass this information, along with the EWR & CES, on to your Retailer and request that your solar is configured. Your Retailer will contact us with a Service Order for this request.

Q: My Retailer says they’ve passed the Embedded Generation application ID on to you. Have you received it?

A: Please contact us on 1300 131 871 or networkconnections@jemena.com.au, and we will search and provide you with the EGid, if we have received it.

Q: When did Jemena start this Embedded Generation Application?

A: This application launched on 1 December 2019 to support an industry-wide initiative to forecast, plan and operate the grid more efficiently.

The use of embedded generation such as rooftop solar and battery storage is on track to be the largest installed capacity of any generation technology by 2029. (Source: AEMO website). As such, from early 2020 the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) are closely monitoring the installation of and planning for the future use of solar and renewable energy devices.

Q: I got my solar prior to the new Embedded Generation application being introduced on 1 December 2019, do I still need to submit an Embedded Generation application?

A: Yes, if your site was not reconfigured for solar previously, all sites will require to have the Embedded generation application  be submitted.

Q: I got my solar prior to the new Embedded Generation application being introduced on 1 December 2019, will you back date my solar connection?

A: Unfortunately we are unable to back date solar connections.

Q: I’ve added extra panels to my existing solar, is there anything I need to do to comply with the new process?

A: The Installer of the extra panels is expected to complete the new Embedded Generation application on the Jemena ‘Connect and manage my electricity’ portal, providing the details of the additional panels. Alternately you can complete the Embedded Generation application details yourself.

Q: When do I need to start installing AS/NZS 4777.2 compliant inverters?

A: You can apply for a connection with a AS/NZS 4777.2:2020 inverter already. However, from 18 December 2021 it will be mandatory to install a AS/NZS 4777.2:2020 inverter.

Q: What region setting do I need to meet?

A: All new inverters installed that comply with the new AS/NZS 4777.2:2020 standard will require to be installed with ‘Australia A’ power quality response settings.

Q: When is the last date to submit an application where the inverter complies with AS/NZS 4777.2:2015?

A: If you wish to install an inverter that complies with AS/NZS 4777.2:2015 it is strongly recommended you submit your application to Jemena’s online portal by Friday 12 November 2021 to ensure you receive a connection offer by 18 December. Applications received after this date cannot be guaranteed to receive a connection offer by 18 December. In addition, if an application is submitted by 12 November but is incomplete or not correct we cannot guarantee we will be able to finalise our assessment by 18 December and the system design would need to comply with the latest AS/NZS 4777.2:2020.
