We're Jemena, your electricity distributor. We own, operate, and maintain the electricity poles and wires in your area, plus we provide safe and reliable electricity to over 370,000 customers and businesses across a 950 square kilometre area in north-west greater Melbourne.
Some of our network includes rural areas, where over the next four months, we will be inspecting approximately 850 kilometres of high-voltage powerlines using drones to ensure our customers stay electricity safe during this summer and into bushfire season.
Why drones?
We are embracing technology and utilising drones for this work over conventional ground-level asset inspection. This will allow us to accurately assess the condition of the powerlines from where weather impacts our assets and degradation initially occurs - the top of the powerline.
Protecting you from our activities
We're aware that noise from drones can present a risk to some livestock. That's why our specialised pilots remain alert for livestock and, where possible, change course to avoid unsettling animals.
We will send email & SMS notifications to impacted customers before commencing in and around the scheduled flight area. If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us through our contact form. We are here to address any issues you may have.
