Each year, the teams at Western Health and Austin Health help look after a combined population of over 1.1 million people living across Melbourne’s western and northern suburbs respectively – and our local Jemena Electricity Network (JEN) communities.
We know the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has made things challenging for their truly amazing 15,000+ staff. In recognition and thanks, Jemena is pleased to provide a donation of $10,000 to both Western Health and Austin Health ($20,000 all up).
“At Western Health, our focus is on working with local community to deliver excellence in patient care,” said Melissa Grenville, Corporate Manager Western Health.
“And while the coronavirus pandemic has certainly brought many challenges and changes to our usual ways of working, it hasn’t altered that commitment. As well as introducing strict new safety practices and supporting community education, testing and caring for those suffering the effects of COVID-19, our teams continue to work around the clock to provide an incredible level of care to anyone coming to us for urgent or ongoing health needs."
"It’s been an incredibly demanding and stressful time for all our staff. With Jemena’s donation, we’ll be able to help treat some hospital staff to not just a free cup of coffee, but small moment of quiet respite during a busy shift.”
“At Austin Health, we’re here to support the community through the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Cheyne Brudenell, Head of Philanthropy, Austin Health Foundation.
“It’s been incredible to see not just the dedication and resilience, but ingenuity our people bring to providing care to our communities during this time – for example our Cardiology team establishing a new drive-through clinic to ensure cardiac patients receive vital pacemaker checks as safely as possible. And all while continuing to be there, physically and emotionally, for their patients and each other.”
With their donation, Austin Health look forward to installing a display to support a staff wellbeing arts program and exhibition, "Behind the mask". This display will also be used to help welcome and share essential messages with their staff, patients and visitors, as well as fund COVID-19 urgent needs including research, equipment and wellness program for patients and staff.
Thanks to all our Victorian and other healthcare workers across the country for their continued passion, bravery and dedication to keep us all healthy, safe and well.
