How energy consumers are dealing with COVID-19

On 16 July 2020, Jemena and Deloitte hosted a virtual forum on how energy consumers are dealing with COVID-19. The forum looked at the results of a survey of 920 Victorian electricity customers carried out in April to better understand the impact on our customers and their energy use. Around 300 people joined the virtual forum to learn about these findings and discuss how the industry can best support customers.

The survey findings include:

  • 44% of respondents experienced a reduction in their household income
  • 23% believe that COVID-19 will impact their household income for more than 10 months
  • 27% of respondents are currently receiving JobKeeper or JobSeeker payments
  • 45% respondents receiving income supplements are concerned with their ability to pay their electricity bill once their JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments are cut off.
