Jemena Proud to Sponsor Wandoan Show

Saturday, 6 April

Leading infrastructure company Jemena has joined a suite of businesses from across south-west Queensland to sponsor this year’s Wandoan Show.

The two-day event showcases the local cattle industry and includes a range of family-friendly activities including a vintage machinery exhibit, fireworks display, and a pop-up market.

Jemena, which is constructing the $140 million Atlas Gas Pipeline Project (AGP) 20 minutes south-west of Wandoan, has sponsored the prestigious Woodchip and Sawing competition at this year’s show.

Atlas Gas Pipeline Project Direct Mark Turner said Jemena was keen to further establish itself as a member of the south-west Queensland community.

“We have a long history of working closely with communities around Roma and more recently Mount Isa through our operation of the Queensland Gas Pipeline and the Northern Gas Pipeline. We are excited to now introduce ourselves to people from Wandoan and surrounding communities as we progress work on the Atlas Gas Pipeline Project,” said Mr Turner.

“Throughout 2019 we look forward to establishing ourselves as a member of the community and have already opened an office in Wandoan.”

Mr Turner said Jemena was also hosting a trade stand at the show allowing the community to meet some of the team and learn more about the project.

“We’re there to answer questions about the project and to understand to what extent the community would like to be involved in the project.”

Mr Turner said Jemena had a strong history of using locals to successfully develop projects and expected many of the 150 to 200 jobs to be created during the construction of the Atlas Gas Pipeline Project to be filled locally.

The Atlas Gas Pipeline Project will connect gas from Senex Energy’s Project Atlas, near Wandoan, with Jemena’s Darling Downs Pipeline and the Wallumbilla Gas Hub.

Project Atlas is the first of 13 tenements awarded by the Queensland Government as a means of fast-tracking additional natural gas supply for domestic market use. All gas from Project Atlas will feed the east coast market.

The Wandoan Show runs from Friday 5 April to Saturday 6 April 2019 at the Wandoan Diggers’ Racecourse. For more information visit: www.wandoanshow.com.au
