Power outages explained

We will respond to any supply problems as quickly as possible

Jemena Electricity Network is responsible for providing a safe and reliable electricity supply in accordance with the electricity distribution code.

Unplanned interruptions

Your electricity supply may be interrupted through an unplanned interruption or emergency. We provide a 24 hour telephone service, 131 626, to keep you informed during such interruptions.

The inherent nature of electricity reliability can be affected by a number of factors beyond our control. These can include:

  • Extreme weather conditions – storms, wind, lightning, extreme heat
  • Interference – cars colliding with power poles, vandalism
  • Trees hitting wires
  • Animal and bird interference
  • Third party civil works damaging lines

On rare occasions these may cause problems to your electrical supply and equipment.

Planned interruptions

Planned outages are undertaken to perform upgrades to the network infrastructure. As we continue to improve the reliability of our network our aim is to provide you with as little interruption to your power supply as possible. If we are conducting planned maintenance work in your area, we aim to inform you at least four business days in advance of when we may need to interrupt your supply.

Power restoration

During widespread outages we always prioritise and restore supply to essential services first

In the event of a supply outage Jemena is committed to reconnecting a safe and reliable supply to customers as soon as possible.

The Jemena Electricity Network is monitored 24 hours a day, a large portion of customer supply interruptions on the network are automatically identified by our operations control centre, however single customers or small areas with supply interruptions rely on customers to contact our 24 hour call centre. Our crews are on standby 24 hours a day to respond to any outage, with extra support crews assigned to days of extreme weather and storms.
