Unplanned power outages

In relation to electricity distribution networks, unplanned supply interruptions, or power outages, are most commonly caused by incidents such as:

• Weather conditions damaging poles and power lines (storms, wind, lightning, extreme heat)
• Cars hitting power poles
• Trees hitting wires
• Animal interference
• Vandalism

On average only a very small percentage of power outages are due to equipment failure. As a result of such causes, Jemena cannot and does not guarantee an uninterrupted supply of power at all times. Jemena is committed to reconnecting a safe and reliable supply to customers as soon as possible.
