TEAM celebrations for International Day of People with a Disability
On Monday 3 December, Jemena was delighted to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) by joining the community opening of the new TEAM SHED in Taylors Hill, VIC.
For 25 years, Training Employment Accommodation Mentoring Inc (TEAM for short) has been supporting people with disabilities in Melbourne’s western suburbs to gain confidence, skills and employment through a variety of programs – from job ready horticultural training to indigenous gardening, sustainable garden design and plant propagation and composting.
Set on previously idle land, the new SHED (Sustainable Horticulture through Educational Diversity) facility will provide a place where people from a diverse range of community groups can come together to participate in and learn about urban horticulture and sustainability.
To help bring energy to life at the site during build, Jemena was delighted to donate all power connection works and provide further funding towards ongoing running costs.
Following a warm welcome from TEAM’s Mat Mason, attendees were privileged to witness local State Member Hon Natalie Hutchins officially open the SHED and several of this year’s TEAM trainees receive their Certificate III in Horticulture.
Congratulations to everyone at TEAM on yet another fantastic community enterprise and being a true reflection of this year’s IWPwD theme, “empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”.
