Power Changers Pilot

Jemena'a demand response trial, Power Changers, took place from December 2017 to March 2018.

More than 600 customers in the Jemena Electricity Network areas of Alphington, Craigieburn, Eaglemont, Ivanhoe and Ivanhoe East registered for the four month trial.

Power Changers, in partnership with the Victorian Government, was a demand response trial, providing incentives to energy users to reduce their electricity consumption during peak times on very hot days. The trial was an innovative, technology-led, community program enabling customers to cut their bills, reduce energy and ease demand on the grid.

Utilising smart meter technology and mobile apps, Jemena provided participants with energy saving tips, challenging them to reduce their electricity usage.

Participants in the Community program areas of Alphington, Eaglemont, Ivanhoe and Ivanhoe East donated their challenge points to local groups and schools. Participants in Craigieburn took part in the Rewards program and redeemed their points for gift cards for their own personal use.

The Jemena Power Changers Trial Evaluation Report was released in July 2019 and outlines the positive impact the trial had on participants’ energy use to help relieve pressure on the electricity grid.
